Quick answer
Choose HeftySend if you want to send up to 20 GB free, give recipients useful media previews and avoid bandwidth charges from your transfer service. Free links last three days. Our paid plans add larger transfers, custom download pages and your own S3 storage option. WeTransfer can handle occasional smaller sends, but its free allowance is much tighter.
Comparison checked on 25 September 2026. We recommend HeftySend for creative deliveries because of the practical differences below.

How do the free allowances compare?
| Detail | HeftySend Free | WeTransfer Free |
|---|---|---|
| File allowance | Up to 20 GB per transfer | Up to 3 GB total in a rolling 30 day window |
| Transfer count | No separate monthly transfer count advertised on our pricing page | Up to 10 transfers in that same window |
| Expiry | 3 days | Maximum 3 days |
| Recipient account | Not required | Not required |
| Main reason to choose it | Larger free deliveries with browser media previews | Familiar service for occasional smaller sends |
WeTransfer’s free plan explanation confirms that both its transfer count and total data allowance apply. If you need to send a 12 GB project, that will not fit its free allowance. It fits in one free HeftySend transfer, provided the total is within 20 GB.
For other options and their limits, see our free large file transfer guide.
Why do previews make client deliveries easier?
A client should not have to guess which file to download. HeftySend lets recipients view supported images and PDFs, play supported videos and listen to audio in the browser. A designer can send artwork with a PDF proof. A filmmaker can send a final video alongside supporting assets.
The recipient can check what is there before downloading the originals. Individual downloads, a ZIP option and the browser downloader give them a choice of how to collect their files. See the examples in our guide to the app.
Can you make the delivery page look like your business?
Yes. HeftySend’s paid plans let you customise download pages with templates, colours, backgrounds and text. Match your studio or agency, add a helpful message and make the delivery feel like part of your service. Brand removal is available on the relevant higher plans shown on our pricing page.

WeTransfer also offers branded pages on paid plans, so the useful question is which design and price fit your work. Our recommendation is to try HeftySend’s free transfer experience first, then explore customisation when you are ready.

What does no bandwidth charging mean for you?
HeftySend does not bill you for bandwidth usage. That matters when a delivery is viewed or downloaded by several people: you can think about the project rather than a running delivery charge from HeftySend.
For example, a 10 GB delivery downloaded five times moves around 50 GB of file data. That does not turn into a HeftySend bandwidth invoice. Your transfer size, expiry and plan features still apply. If you connect your own S3 storage, check your storage provider’s separate charges.
Can you use your own storage?
HeftySend’s paid S3 integration lets you connect compatible storage, including services such as Cloudflare R2 or AWS S3. This is useful when you want to manage the bucket yourself while giving clients a polished download experience.
The Lifetime plan requires your own storage. Premium and Ultra can also use it. You remain responsible for the bucket’s setup, access and provider costs. Storage control alone does not establish compliance with a particular regulation.
When is a paid HeftySend plan worth it?
Start free, then upgrade when you need larger transfers, longer access or a delivery page that looks like your business. Our pricing page shows the current inclusions.
| Plan | Price in USD | Transfer size and expiry |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Up to 20 GB per transfer; 3 days |
| Premium | $9 per month | Up to 1 TB per transfer; up to 365 days |
| Ultra | $39 per month | Up to 4 TB per transfer; unlimited expiry |
| Lifetime | $99 once | Your own S3 storage required; unlimited transfer size and expiry |
Prices checked on 25 September 2026. Premium and Ultra also support your own S3 storage, with unlimited transfer size and expiry in that configuration. Your storage provider can charge separately for storage, requests or data delivery. HeftySend does not charge you for bandwidth usage.
What does a global delivery network do?
A content delivery network distributes delivery infrastructure across locations. It can help reduce the distance between content and recipients. HeftySend uses a global delivery network, but your connection, file size and network conditions still affect transfer time. This short video from Work Smart explains Cloudflare CDN in everyday terms; it explains the delivery infrastructure behind services like ours.
How do you get started with HeftySend?
Choose your files on the homepage, wait for the upload to finish and share the link. Open it on another device to see the delivery exactly as your recipient will. For a client project, use clear file names and include the download deadline in your message.
Our priorities are concrete: no ads or popups in the transfer experience, no HeftySend bandwidth charges, clear free limits and more control over how you deliver work. Those are reasons to choose the app that you can evaluate yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use HeftySend without signing up?
Yes. A basic free send does not require an account. A free account gives you a starting point for using the account features and choosing upgrades later.
Does HeftySend have a bigger free allowance than WeTransfer?
For a single delivery, yes: HeftySend supports up to 20 GB free. WeTransfer’s current free plan allows up to 3 GB total and ten transfers in a rolling 30 day window.
Are all customisation features included free?
No. Custom download pages and the advanced paid features depend on your plan. Check the pricing page before choosing an upgrade.
How can I help a large upload finish smoothly?
Use a stable connection, keep the upload page open and avoid other large uploads at the same time. HeftySend uses a global delivery network, while your local connection still affects the time needed.
Can clients download without an account?
Yes. Recipients can use the shared link without signing up. Tell them when it expires so they can save the files in time.
How do I switch from WeTransfer?
Keep your original files, start a new HeftySend transfer and share its new link with your recipients. Existing WeTransfer links do not automatically move across.
